Awesome Anime and Manga Collectibles
The Japanese manga comics cover a vast range of subjects, from action adventure to science fiction, comedy and romance among many other topics. The style is noticeably different from that of western cartoons, in particular with regards to proportions and expressions. In their current form manga comics have existed since around the 1940s although the first actual manga magazine was produced in the 1870s and rarer editions. One of the most popular is the ongoing Naruto series. Collections naturally often consist of the original comics, although also highly popular are manga books, where a number of editions from a series are collected together and published as what is effectively a graphic novel. Prices vary widely from a few dollars or less to substantially more for particularly rare or desirable editions.
Anime collectibles are items relating to Japanese animated films and some date back to the beginning of the last century. There are certain style similarities with Manga - in particular the prevalence of exaggeratedly large eyes. Generally the proportions are similar in most anime (the body is around 7 times the height of the head) although in some forms exaggeration and distortion is used to a great extent. There are certain universal expressions used to denote mood and overall anime is also noticeably different from the conventions of western animation.
There are many highly collectible items relating to anime. One of the most popular are anime cels from the orginal animations. They are usually sold accompanied by the original sketch. Prices vary naturally - depending on the date and popularity of the animation they are taken from, generally starting at a few dollars up to several hundred. Inuyasha cels for example vary in price from around $30 to well over $200. If you are making a collection of these, and they make a very visual, rewarding and authentic collection, then it is advisable to take care when mounting or framing them as they are delicate and easily damaged. If you are not especially skilled at this then getting a picture framer to do it would be a good idea.
While owning an actual piece of a film is the most obvious start of a collection there are many other anime related items which are highly collectible. Some of the most popular are anime dolls, or figures, and posters. As these items are produced especially for collectors and fans rather than being actual parts of the animation they are generally rather less costly to collect, although naturally rare and highly desirable ones can command substantial prices. They can be extremely appealing in their own right and in some ways are easier to collect - they are to a degree less delicate (although as with cels you would be advised to frame or mount posters correctly) and if mass produced finding a particular item that you wish for your collection is more likely.
Building a collection of either anime or manga items can of course be extremely costly but it needn't be, especially to begin with. Bargains can be found on a range of websites, ebay especially is a place worth looking although checking the authenticity of especially the more valuable items should be done. Another way of adding to your collection is getting in touch with other collectors, who may well know of particularly good sources or have items themselves that they wish to sell.
Manga is a term that referred to comics in Japan which are often made as cartoons or anime. An Anime is an abbreviated word for "animation". Although it is rendered as Japanese phonetic script as katakana, the word is actually composed of two Chinese ideographs meaning "playful images "or "humorous figures". The anime figures have a unique characters and backgrounds which are generally created by hand or by the aid of a computer. The anime figure has those distinctively wide eyes, narrow mouths and bizarre hair colors. They also show exaggerated emotions. When the characters cry, they usually pours in a bucket or when they laugh, the mouth is so big that it looks like engulfing the whole face. These distinctive characters and looks are often called as the Manga Style.
Unlike its counterpart part which is the American comics, Manga follows a different format. It is much smaller and collected in a small volume that appears like small books similar to that of Archie Comics. If a certain story gets popular then it is collected and published in a new volume, this has happened to one of the Manga's popular books, Naruto which has captured the interest of readers in America. It is also to read differently because it has to be read from the right side to the left. Not only this, but also you need to read the texts and panels from right to left, as well, which is exactly the opposite format of all the traditional American books.
The books are aimed at a wider range of audiences by sex and ages: children's magazines (yonenshi), teen magazines (shonenshi), and "young" magazines (yangushi, or seinenshi) for readers in late teens to their late twenties. There are also adult magazines (seinenshi) for ages 18 and up and may contain extreme violence, naughty bits, and nudity. Lastly, otonashi, which are intended for a more mature audience with no upper age limit. Or, it could be characterized under several genres.
Shonen (Boy's Manga) which is usually humorous and action packed, Shojo (Girl's Manga) is more lighthearted and romance related topics, Seinen (Men's Manga) contains sexually explicit materials and graphic violence, Josei or redikomi (Women's Manga) and Kodomo (Children's Manga). There is even a Manga and Anime that called Hentai which is erotic.
